Hi Dominique:

Isn't it crazy to meet someone who has your same name? You are actually the 2nd or 3rd person to write me with same name, and it is always so funny. I think the best part about it is that we are all different though, and make our names belong to us as individuals.
Anyway I think it is great that you have an interest in the arts. The arts are so much fun and really give you a way to express your creativity and feelings. Although you are in school studying that doesnt mean that you cannot be involved in art related projects. You are very smart for being in school because while you chase your "real" dream you can still have a profession and pay your bills. That is what I am doing now. And although many times you wish you could do ONLY your hobby, we all hope that one day we will be able to do that if we just pay our dues.

My suggestion to you would be to get involved in your local arts scene. Whatever may be your main interest, invest your time in it. Seek out classes, schools to get training, experience, and practice. Use your training and push yourself to get better at your craft. In your spare time surround yourself with people who have your same interests so you can get that good energy poppin off! When you feel comfortable begin to step out, seek opportunities and use your training to get money.

I know the previous paragraph sounded really simple and hard at the same time but the only way to fulfill your dreams is to take that chance gradually. Over time you will be directed on a certain path and you will learn what is best for you. If you decide NOT to take this chance, the only consequence will be a dream unfulfilled.

Your little story is very cute and just the fact that you think of yourself in a positive way is good. In todays world it is hard many times to love yourself for who you are because so many people want to tell you WHO to be. Honestly all you can really do is be yourself and from experience I think that is the best you can do. My hope is that if you DO stay true to yourself then your path will take you to where you want to be, eventually.

I can really relate to your family situation because I was raised by a single mother as well. It is really amazing that kids are still growing up like this these days but I KNOW kids in these situations can grow up to be just as successful as kids in "traditional" homes. For me, being raised in a single family home really had a huge impact on me as an individual and taught me a lot about life in general. Use the things you learned from your family life to your advantage. Don't make the same mistakes. When making decisions think of it as the decision isn't only for yourself and your life but also for your family. Use that motivation to propel you to succeed. You have to do it not only for yourself but also for your family. YOU set the example for your siblings, cousins, etc.

Take care suga!
