Behind-the-Scenes of CBS "Cane" in L.A.

Whew…..

Hi everyone!!! I hope all is well with you : ) I am fine, just up to my usual work.

As you may or may not know I was selected as a Top 5 finalist for the “Face of Duque Rum” contest. The Lucia Duque Rum beverage is a fictional brand that exists on the CBS TV show “Cane” starring Jimmy Smits, Hector Elizondo, Rita Moreno (the legend ☺), Eddie Matos, Paola Turbay, etc. The TV show “Cane” is about a Latin American family with a Rum business that has enabled them to live the “American Dream”.

I somehow heard about the casting and submitted myself online with a picture and small explanation on why I felt I should be a Spokes model for the fictional brand. Well..... THANK YOU to everyone out there who voted for me because last week I randomly got an email from CBS saying that I was being considered as a finalist with the opportunity to win an ALL expense paid trip to LA. I was sooo surprised I didn't know whether to believe it or think it was a scam. Before I knew it I was on my way to LA and on the CBS studios lot on the set of “Cane”!!!

Being on the set of “Cane” was really amazing. The other finalists were very nice and it was great meeting and hanging out with them. Carolyn, our producer was also very hospitable from the minute they picked us up in the limo at 6:30AM to begin our big day. We started with pictures in front of the limo at the Sheraton Universal where we stayed. As soon as we got on the CBS Studios lot we went straight to wardrobe and changed into our outfit for the scene and photo shoot. We then went to rehearsal for our scene. Eddie Matos a.k.a Henry Duque is a great actor and was a great host for our activities of the day. We then went to hair and make up where I was blessed by Rebecca, an AMAZING make up artist. Rebecca’s work is gorgeous and she has such pride in what she does. While were in the make-up trailer Jimmy Smits was also getting his finishing touches before heading to set to film his scene. Before we could even get settled in out dressing room we were back to set to shoot our scene. After our scene we did the photo shoot in the “Club Duque” along with an on-camera Q&A with Eddie Matos. We also got to attend an exclusive table read of one of their future episodes. During the table read one of the the Executive Producers J.Prince introduced us into everyone in the room. I felt very proud.

While on the set of “Cane” we shot the scene that will air Nov.6th at 10PM on CBS that shows the winner being announced. For the announcement scene we shot 5 different results with each girl winning so we will not know who wins until the show airs. So now I am calling all of YOU to vote for me, Dominique Jackson if you think I should be the “Face of Duque Rum”. I already feel extremely blessed, surprised, and shocked to have been considered as a finalist and flown to LA but I would love to also bring the crown home to NYC for all my friends, family and acquaintances : ) I have been grinding on my own, managing myself, and working very hard for about the last 7 years and this would be a nice reward for my hard work.

The day was so amazing but also covered with the dark cloud from the fires close by in Malibu. If you looked in the distance you could see the dark smoke covering the mountain peaks.

That evening we went to Universal City Walk where I finally had my authentic Mexican food : ) Yayyyyyy!

After that I was so worn out I went to bed.

Now I am back in NYC BABY!!

Please watch “Cane” on Nov. 6, 2007 at 10PM on CBS to see who wins the “Face of Duque” contest. Our episode also features Grammy Award winning singer Alicia Keys performing her #1 hit "No One".

I love you all! Please feel free to respond with any comments or questions.

Peace!!
