NYC: Daily Candy's New Years Countdown

    Amateur Night

The ball drops for the 100th time as you take your 100th sip of champagne. Unless you didn’t make New Year’s plans. Herewith, a countdown to keep you going till the last stroke.

    10. Real revelers party the eve before New Year’s Eve at LVHRD’s Super Heroes Ball, a preemptive masquerade bash at an undisclosed location.

    9. Prepare your cure: aspirin, bananas, water, hangover remedy Kampai, and bacon (Vitamin Shoppe, 66 Lexington Ave., at 59th St.; 212-421-0250).

    8. The priciest meal of the year? Not at The Diner (44 Ninth Ave., at 14th St.; 212-627-2230), where you get fried green tomatoes, skirt steak, and chocolate mouse for $19.95. No need to reserve, lazy cheapo, just go.

    7. If you’d prefer to go out with a bang, see what the fuss is about at Del Posto, Mario Batali’s fabuloso, extravaganzo new restauranto (85 Tenth Ave., b/t 15th & 16th Sts.; 212-497-8090).

    6. Do your annual midnight run in costume: Meet at the Central Park Bandshell (72nd St., at Fifth Ave.; 212-860-4455) around 11 for a mad dash, dance party, and fireworks.

    5. Unless you’d rather visualize ’06 with midnight yoga, chanting, and meditation at Dharma Yoga Center (297 Third Ave., at 23rd St.; 212-889-8160).

    4. Who are you kidding? Exercise is next year’s resolution. Dance hard at Movida (28 Seventh Ave. S., at Leroy St.; 212-206-9600), laugh hard at Mo Pitkin’s (34 Avenue A, b/t 2nd & 3rd Sts.; 212-777-5660), and drink hard at the Tribeca Grand (2 Sixth Ave., at Church St.; 212-519-6500), where they’re doing a ball drop in the lounge.

    3. Skip or stumble to the Cheeky B*stard afterparty (from 3 a.m.) for a hipster/indie/yuppie crowd and drop-in celeb DJs spinning dance rock and new wave (Cotton, 105 W. 27th St., b/t Sixth & Seventh Aves.; 212-627-1444).

    2. Whether you’re getting up or coming down at 9 a.m., order a Hot Toddy for the Body, a detox scrub and massage at Ettia Holistic Day Spa (239 W. 72nd St., b/t Broadway & West End Ave.; 212-362-7109).

    1. Crash your friend’s apartment for breakfast. Bring champagne, streamers, and croissants. Or pray for forgiveness of your sins at brunch with The World-Famous Harlem Gospel Choir and thank the heavens for the all-you-can-eat buffet at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill (237 W. 42 St., b/t Seventh & Eighth Aves.; 212-997-4144).

    NYC Affordable Housing

    Hi Everyone......

Lately I have been going to a Seminar at a place called Neighbors Helping Neighbors that is for 1st time home-buyers. For all my youngins' I definitely recommend keeping home buying in mind as a goal to work towards. Who wants to pay rent for forever and never have nothing to show for it? Why pay rent when those rent payments could be going toward your home. Believe it or not there are many programs run by the government, city and state to help, support, and educate the 1st time home buyer. Even better.... you can get FREE $$$. Just imagine, if you begin saving today - one day you can own your own home (and sooner than you think). Below is some info on NYC's 1st time home buyer programs. Enjoy!

Dramatists Play Service is pleased to announce the publication of:

CROWNS by Regina Taylor"Taylor pulls off a Hat Trick: She scores thrice, turning CROWNS into an artful amalgamation of oral history, fashion show, and musical theater…Hats off to Regina Taylor for a considerable achievement." —TheatreMania.com "…wholly theatrical…Ms. Taylor has created a show that seems to arise out of spontaneous combustion, as if a bevy of department-store customers simultaneously decided to stage a revival meeting in the changing room." —The New York Times "Warm, wise and wonderful." —The Star Ledger

SIN (A CARDINAL DEPOSED) by Michael MurphyWinner of a 2005 Obie Award. “SIN looks at the scandalous child sex-abuse crimes that sent shockwaves through the Catholic Church. In his stark treatment, Michael Murphy studiously avoids graphic accounts of creepy priests diddling altar boys. His stunning revelations are presented by contrasting depositions given by Cardinal Law with statements of young victims and their families.” —Variety “Murphy’s quietly disturbing play…reveals with devastating clarity the dubious role that Cardinal Law played in a tragedy that irreparably damaged hundred of families and destroyed more than a few lives.” —The New York Times

TOUCH by Toni Press-Coffman“…a gripping, heart-wrenching, tender drama whose scenes shift seamlessly, character to character, past to present.” —The New York Times “So often these days, theater aspires to nothing more than sheer escapism. But now and then, a deeply touching play comes along. TOUCH is one of those.” —The Miami Herald “Toni Press-Coffman’s play celebrates the beauty of survival with eloquence and grace.” —The Portland Oregonian

Every once in a while I get into a mood where I feel like I need to sit back and reflect upon what is going in the world, my life, my family and this thing called existence. Many times we fail to realize how easy it is to get caught up in our own lives/the present and not think about where we've been, what we've overcome, what our ancestors have overcome, what is going on the world around us that we are aware of, what we are NOT aware of and "who" we really are are individuals. In moments like this music can be one of the best ways to escape your current reality. For me there is no one better than Tupac Shakur to give you a whirlwind of moods that remind how multi-faceted we are human beings.

    Book Spotlight......... For my Ladies

As a young (hetero) woman there comes a time when you learn that when it comes to men "can't live with them, BUT can't live without them". If you are currently in this situation, have been in this situation, know someone in this situation, or want to prep yourself for the future I DEFINITELY recommend this book. At the very least "Ending the Search for Mr.Right" validates the feelings, questions and concerns you have as a woman and guides you how to live in "harmony" with men while respecting yourself at the same time. Best!

© Elton to "wed" in Prince Charles wedding venue
Pop star Elton John will "wed" his long term partner David Furnish at the same venue where Prince Charles married Camilla Parker Bowles in April in the royal town of Windsor. The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead announced on Monday that the celebrity couple would formalize their 12-year relationship through a civil partnership ceremony on December 21 at the Guildhall, Windsor. Monday was the first day same-sex couples could register their partnership and take advantage of a law giving them legal status, although they must wait two weeks for it to take effect.

© Foxy Brown's Case Adjourned Until Dec. 23
Rapper Foxy Brown is almost totally deaf, her lawyer said Monday. Attorney Joseph Tacopina disclosed Brown's hearing problem after a question about why they exchanged notes while waiting in Manhattan Criminal Court for her case to be called on an unresolved 2004 assault charge. "She's pretty much totally deaf now," Tacopina said. "She can't hear me. We have to write things back and forth. Anything I have to communicate with her now has to be written." Brown, 25, revealed during a court appearance in September that she would soon undergo surgery to try to correct her hearing. Obviously straining to hear questions, she refused to discuss the possible cause of the problem. Tacopina said Monday the prognosis from that surgical procedure is still undetermined, but "hopefully it (the condition) is reversible. She has to undergo another surgery." Meanwhile, Judge Melissa Jackson adjourned Brown's case until Dec. 23 when, Tacopina said, he expects it will be resolved. Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, is charged with misdemeanor assault, attempted assault and harassment. http://news.yahoo.com/

Oprah Winfrey, ranked No. 8, was the only performer on the list. The list will be published in The Hollywood Reporter's 14th annual Women in Entertainment Power 100 issue on Dec. 6.

"We have reconciled and are probably going to remarry," Eminem told Detroit radio station WKQI-FM's "Mojo in the Morning" show. During the interview, he referred to Kimberly Mathers, 30, as "my wife Kim." http://news.yahoo.com/

© Eminem Impersonator Faces Life Sentence
An Eminem impersonator who beat a woman to death and stuffed her body in a suitcase — a scene reminiscent of the rapper's "Stan" video — is facing life in prison. Christopher Duncan, 21, has the same hair color, style and tattoos as the rapper. Duncan pleaded guilty Thursday to killing Jagdip Najran, 26, a law student and aspiring singer. They met at a karaoke bar last year, where Najran was smitten after watching Duncan perform, a prosecutor said. Duncan took Najran back to his apartment and beat her over the head with an iron baseball bat until she fell unconscious, then stuffed her body into a suitcase. Medical experts testified she stayed alive for at least an hour after being struck. Duncan reportedly told police he was high on Ecstasy and LSD at the time. In the video for "Stan," an obsessive fan ties up his girlfriend, throws her in the trunk of his car and drives it over a bridge. Duncan was to be sentenced Monday. A call to Eminem's publicist in Los Angeles was not immediately returned.
